Customs Freight Supervisor

Our client is a well-established Freight Forwarding and Logistics specialist with offices throughout England and Scotland. We are now looking to strengthen the team and are looking for a Customs Clearance Supervisor based in Manchester

Supervising the department with an emphasis on leading, motivating, coaching and developing the team of Junior and Senior Customs Declarants. Working as part of a team with Customs Declarants to submit and process customs entries and ensuring that shipments meet all applicable laws to facilitate the import and export of goods on Air, Sea and Road shipments. Act between the customer and Customs and act as a point of reference and answer queries and support Senior and Junior Customs Declarants.
Main duties will involve.

Coordination of processing of customs data to ensure it is delivered smoothly and seamlessly.
Daily task coordination and team management.
Providing outstanding customer service and communication.
Working with internal and external partners to resolve deficiencies.
Provide analysis data and documentation as evidence for internal and external audits.
Timely follow up of open issues, including clearance of undischarged T1 documents and handling of outstanding preference documents.
Maintain current knowledge of customs legislation, political/commercial documentation and the HMRC tariff.
Providing support, assistance and direction to the team members.
Preparing reports and metrics for both internal and external purposes.
Training of client and broker personnel involved with customs operations.
Providing regular status input to Operations Manager.
Maintain AEO status by ensuring that customs procedures managed by team are documented and follows.
Apply for customs authorisations
In depth knowledge of import and export Customs procedures and principles according to the HMRC tariff.
Ability to analyse and interpret numerous data.
Knowledge about VAT.

In order to apply for this role, you will have...

A high level of experience in a similar role within the shipping industry/ freight forwarding
Full knowledge of customs procedures and principles on both Imports, Exports and Transit on all transport modes including knowledge on Customs Warehousing, Transit (NCTS) and CFSP.
Trade Qualification (BIFA) in Customs Procedures an advantage.
Must be computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft packages and relative software including Destin8/CNS Compass.
A good level of numeracy and literacy.
Must be able to meet deadlines and to be able to work under pressure.
Have proven, excellent customer service skills.
Have a methodical and organized approach to work with the ability to think ahead and prioritise tasks.
The successful applicant will ideally be able to quickly respond effectively to changing demands and be able to apply good problem-solving skills.
In depth knowledge of tariff classification.

Salary £30,000- £35,000 Permanent position with an immediate start
