Job Type: Permanent
Location: Stoke on Trent
Salary: £25,000 £35,000 Depending on experience and qualifications
Hours of Work: Monday Friday, 06.00am 4.00pm with a 1hr lunch (and a 1 in every 4 Saturday mornings)

Description:

Due to continued growth we are currently seeking a Skilled Transport Shift Operator/Planner to work within our very busy Operations Department, primarily working in the General Haulage and backload Division. You will be assisting in the day to day operations of the General Haulage business, looking after customers and dealing with transport requests whilst liaising with drivers daily. The main areas of responsibility is the undertaking of the backload and return work, vehicle routing and supervising the collections board for our fleet of articulated curtainsided vehicles so your geographical knowledge must be excellent. The ideal individual must have previous experience in similar roles and will have a commercial understanding of vehicle costs and revenues to ensure maximum vehicle earnings at all times.

They are looking for an outstanding individual with experience in a fast moving, logistics and transport environment and the knowledge required to execute this role effectively.

Responsibilities:

Troubleshooting issues as they arrive from the previous shift
Identifying and rectifying the issues as they arise in a live environment
Route planning the outbound fleet ensuring vehicles are able to backload
Overseeing the morning operation to ensure all vehicles leave the depot on time and dealing with changes to the load plan or problems as they come about
Arranging and developing backloads for the fleet with profit and empty miles in mind
Developing and retaining new backload business and able to negotiate best rates for our business
Briefing and Debriefing Drivers throughout the day
Liaising with drivers to ensure delivery times are met and managing all aspects of the return/backload functions and collections
Managing all queries brought to your attention

Skills Required:

Have the ability to keep up with a changing load plan and make quick decisions as and when changes are required - Essential
Excellent IT Skills
Excellent decision making skills, a high level of initiative and able to prioritise and problem solve
A good commercial understanding of vehicle costings and resource management
Previous experience with an in house TMS
A good ability to learn new IT Platforms and operate across various software
Prior experience in a Transport Industry is essential
The ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment
Good knowledge of the UK and major road networks
Excellent Telephone Manner of Customer Service Skills
The ability to work as part of an integral team
Excellent time keeping and attendance is required
